Bad Times Trend: How a Deep-House Single Became TikTok’s Kitchen Argument
The Bad Times trend is a TikTok routine to “BAD TIMES” by Imael Angel: standing in a bright kitchen, you act out a furious argument with whoever is filming, clutching your head, posing hand on hip, pushing “stop” palms, then striding up to the lens to point and yell. A French creator started it on 20 August 2026; by late September, one-photo AI videos of dogs and cats doing it were the most shared form.

Start with the song, because the song is the odd part
“BAD TIMES” is a deep-house single by Imael Angel, released on 30 March 2026 on her own label, according to Songfacts and Apple Music dates quoted by oakgen.ai. Imael Angel is the stage name of a Hungarian-born songwriter living in England, and Songfacts notes she uses AI tools to turn her lyrics into finished songs, which is why “is Imael Angel AI?” is one of the most searched questions about the trend. The honest answer: a real person, AI-assisted production.
Nothing happened to the song for five months. Then a dance built on it in August and the song charted on the back of the dance: it entered the UK Official Singles Chart at No. 97 on 1 October 2026, reached No. 2 on the Official Singles Downloads Chart the same week, and peaked at No. 67 on 15 October, with a No. 16 peak on the Dance Singles chart. That is the unusual shape of this trend. Most TikTok dances borrow a hit; this one made one.
There is also a “Long Version” of the track. oakgen.ai notes its template is cut to that edit; the 20 seconds the dance uses are the same in both.
What the dance is: an argument, not a dance
The person stands in a bright, modern kitchen with the phone propped still. For the first ten seconds they pose: hands clutching the head in disbelief, then a side-on stance with one hand at the temple and the other on the hip, swaying and shaking the head, then both palms pushed out at the camera as if to say stop. Then they drop their arms and walk straight up to the lens until their face fills the frame, and when the vocal hook arrives at around the eleventh second, they argue with it: lean in, tilt the head, point, swing a palm. The last two seconds are a step back, a raised hand and a glare.
That is why the trend reads instantly in any language. There are no steps to learn, only a scene everyone recognises: the row in the kitchen. And because the scene is about expression rather than footwork, it transferred to dogs and cats better than any dance trend this year.
The moves
The six moves, on the beat
Timings follow the 20-second continuous take used by most copies; the hook lands at about second 11. Sources: oakgen.ai’s move-by-move page and badtimes-ai.org.
- 0:00–0:02
Head clutch. Both hands press the sides of the bowed head, then fly up beside the face. Shock.
- 0:02–0:06
Hip pose. Turn side-on, face to the camera, one hand at the temple, the other on the hip. Sway and shake the head: “I cannot believe this.”
- 0:06–0:10
Stop push. Half-turned, both palms out, pushing toward the camera on the beat, with a small shrug or wave.
- 0:10–0:11
Walk to the lens. Arms drop, stride forward until the face fills the frame. The camera never moves; you come to it.
- 0:11–0:18
The argument. The hook enters. Lean into the lens, tilt the head, point at the camera, swing a palm toward it and back, as if yelling.
- 0:18–0:20
The stare. Step back, raise a hand (some add a hand cupped to the ear), then lean in and glare as the beat returns.
The close-up argument is the half everyone copies. The “angry dance” sub-trend keeps only the first ten seconds of poses.

Why dogs and cats took over
By mid-September the human versions had done what human versions do: everyone who was going to film an argument in their kitchen had filmed it. What kept the trend alive was that the scene works better when the arguer is a husky. A dog standing upright in a kitchen, clutching its head and then marching up to the lens to bark at you, is funnier than any person, and the fixed-camera, one-shot format is exactly what one-photo AI video tools are good at.
That is why the top-ranking pages for the trend today are AI tool pages rather than explainers, and why oakgen.ai built not one page but a whole set: dance, dance moves, dog, cat, song, captions. Each sub-search has its own intent. Someone typing “bad times dog” wants to put their own dog in it, not to read about Imael Angel. This page covers all of those intents in one place; the pet template on Rapsona is being reviewed separately from the human one.
The one thing to check on every AI pet version before posting: the paws. The common failure is a cat with human hands, and it is the first thing commenters point out.
Versions
Every version people are posting
Solo in the kitchen
The original. One person, bright kitchen, phone propped on the counter. Still the version people mean by “the Bad Times dance”.
Couple
Two people argue, then swap who is yelling. AI couple versions add a nose-to-nose moment and a hug from behind at the end; the @miledandmelissa take was at about 20 million views by 24 October.
Dog
The most shared AI form. Huskies, shepherds and French bulldogs standing upright in the kitchen. Started 15 September.
Cat
Cats on hind legs with the same six moves. Gentler timing than dogs; watch for the human-hands glitch.
Family and friends
A parent and adult child take turns, or a friend holds the phone and gets yelled at. The “who is filming” gag is the point.
Babies and capybaras
AI toddlers and, briefly, capybaras in October. Rapsona does not generate minors, so this one stays on other people’s feeds.
Angry dance
A sub-trend since late October that uses only the first ten seconds of poses and skips the walk to the lens. TikTok launched its own AI template for it on 22 October.
Bad Times vs the angry dance: how to tell which one you are watching
| Bad Times trend | Angry dance trend | |
|---|---|---|
| Length | About 20 seconds, one continuous take | About 10 seconds |
| Second half | Walk to the lens, argument, stare | None; ends after the stop push |
| Where it comes from | @bouuhyachaka, 20 August 2026 | A cut-down of the same take, popular from late October |
| Hashtags | #badtimes, #badtimesimaelangel | #angrydance |
| Rapsona template | Bad Times | Not planned; the Bad Times video covers it |
Before you post
What the versions with tens of millions of views have in common.
- Use the first 20 seconds of the official sound inside TikTok, with the hook at second 11 lined up with the walk to the lens. Rapsona videos come with the song, and the silent copy is there for exactly this.
- Keep the camera still. The whole joke is that the arguer comes to you.
- Caption from the arguer’s point of view (“when I say the walk is cancelled” for dogs; “when the dishwasher is loaded wrong” for humans). Oakgen built a whole page of these because they work.
- Tag #badtimes and #imaelangel; the song’s own tag is the second-largest pool of views.
- Check hands and paws on AI versions, and label the video as AI.
Casting your dog or cat in the Bad Times kitchen
What makes a pet version land, from the ones that did.
| Choice | Works | Does not |
|---|---|---|
| Breed | Expressive faces: husky, French bulldog, shepherd, pug | Flat-faced black cats in a dark kitchen; the face disappears |
| Photo | Head-on, eyes open, whole head in frame, daylight | Blurry, from above, sunglasses or costumes |
| Stance | Upright on hind legs by the counter | On all fours; the hip pose reads as nothing |
| Hands | Paws kept as paws | Human hands on a cat; the comments will notice |
| Caption | Pet point of view: the walk, the bath, the moved bed | Your own argument; it stops being a pet video |

Yes — downloads include trend-matched audio so you can preview and post with sound. For TikTok view counts under the official trend sound, use the silent MP4 and attach that sound in TikTok.
07How do you do the Bad Times dance?
Six beats: clutch your head, pose with a hand on your hip, push both palms at the camera, stride up to the lens, point and “yell” as the hook comes in, then step back and glare. The camera stays still the whole time.

The first twenty seconds. The poses sit on the beat, and the walk to the camera lands on the vocal hook at about eleven seconds.

Close cousins. The angry dance copies only the first half of the kitchen take, the poses before the walk to the lens, and has had its own TikTok AI template since 22 October 2026.
10Can I do the Bad Times trend with my partner or a friend?
Yes; the couple versions are the most viewed of the whole trend. Two people argue and then swap roles. Rapsona’s Bad Times template is for one person. For two people arguing on camera, film or edit a couple take yourself; this page’s template focuses on the single-person kitchen argument.

No. Once it starts, the video keeps generating on our servers, so you can close the page. It takes 5 to 25 minutes, depending on the length of the video and the detailed processing of your photo. Come back then and open Account, under Your videos, to watch and download it.

Dog Dance Crew
The Dog Dance Crew is an AI pet video that appeared on TikTok on 25 October 2026: four dogs in a row on a glossy dark stage bow, bob and head-whip in sync to the TikTok edit of “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyoncé. It grew out of the Single Ladies dog dance of early October, and people put their own dog in the lead spot from one photo.
Hop Hop Hop Trend
The Hop Hop Hop trend, also called the gabi trend, is a TikTok duo dance to the Russian song “Её парень” (Her Boyfriend) by Shluzov: one person stands close to the camera and points back over their shoulder while a friend hops on the beat far behind, then a hard cut on the beat swaps their places. It spread from cosplay creators from 18 October 2026 and AI two-photo versions followed within a week.
Toc Toc Dance
The Toc Toc dance is a TikTok routine to “Toc Toc”, a 2015 party song by French entertainer Patrick Sébastien: hop on one foot, knock on an invisible door on the chorus, skip across the room, finish arms wide, never smile. A French high-school student started it in late August 2026; in October, AI versions in a blond wig and vintage suit, nicknamed the Jean Phil dance, took it worldwide.
